Islamic ruling on celebrating Mawlud Nabiyy(The Prophet’s birthday)

Praise be to Allaah

Almighty Allah says: “Say (O Muhammad) If you love Allaah then follow me, Allaah will love you and forgive your sins. And Allaah is oftforgiving, most merciful.

”Say Obey Allaah and the Messanger, but if they turn away then Allaah does not like the disbelievers
” [Suuratu Aal ‘Imraan]”

“And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it). And fear Allaah; verily, Allaah is Severe in punishment”
[al-Hashr 59:7]

Islaam is based on the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, Any teaching or guidance outside from these two sources of knowledge and guidance from the True God is bid’ah(innovation in religion) and hence, not Islaam, we find nothing about celebrating the Birthday of our Prophet in both sources

, there is nothing in the Qur’aan to say that we should celebrate the Mawlid. The Prophet himself did not celebrate it nor he command anyone to do it either during his lifetime or after his death and introducing something new(Bid’ah) in to Islaam is a sin because Prophet Muhammad said: “Whoever introduces ANYTHING into this matter of ours that is not part of it will have it rejecteted” [Bukhaari]

There is no festival in Islamic Sharee’ah that called Mawlid, neither the Soaabah nor the Taabi’een nor the four Imaams nor anyone else recognized such a day as part of festival.

The first who introduced this innovation was Abu Sa’eed Kawkaboori, the king of Irbil, at the end sixth or seventh century A.H.

Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) said: “The best speech is the Book of Allaah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The MOST EVIL of thing are those which are NEWLY INVENTED(in Islaam), and EVERY innovation is going astray[Reported by Muslim and an-Nasaa ee].

Abdullah ibn Masud RA said “Follow (the Sunnah) and do not innovate, for you have been given that which is sufficient and every innovation is misguidance” [Kitabul Ilm No. 54 by Abu Khaythamah, Sahih by Albani.]

Imaam al-Barbahaari (d.329H) said, ‘‘Beware of small innovations, because they grow and become large. This was the case with every innovation introduced into this Ummah. It started as something small, bearing a resemblance to the truth, which is why those who entered into it were misled, and then were unable to leave it. So it grew and it became the religion which, they followed, so they deviated from the Straight Path and thus left Islaam”. [Sharah As Sunnah No. 7 (Arabic No.5)]

Those innovators may claime that because they love Prophet Muhammad(Peace and blessing of Allaah be upon him) that’s reason they are doing it. No! Their love to Prophet Muhammad cannot over the love of Sohaabah and we show love to our prophet by following his sunnah not by performing acts of bid’ah. The lover of Prophet Muhammad show it everyday, they do this by trying to follow each and every sunnah of Rasoolullaah and it appear in them and their deeds

There is no better way to show love than this, some of the people who celebrate mawlid do it as a shortcut to show love one day out of the whole year. they follow hardly any Sunnah, even on the day of mawlid and other days how many of them have prayed their fard solawaat(obligatory prayers) but to them the mawlid is more important than fard solawaat, these people are the most cultural muslims. We find no Sohaabah celebrated Mawlid, Included the first four Caliphs, Taabi een, Imaams and others

. Why a certain or ordinary group of people who were born long after the death of the prophet claim to have known better than those sahabas(Companions). Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) said: “The best of mankind are my generation(Century), then those who come after them, then those come after them. Then there will come a people who will not care of their testimony comes before their oath or vice-versal(They will not take it seriously)
[Reported by Bukhaari, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi]

Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him is an imitation of the Christians, because they do christmas (celebrating the birth of the Messiah, peace be upon him.) Imitating them is extremely haram because _Propet Muhammad(sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “whoever imitates a people is one of them.”[Abu Daawud 4031]

*_Allaah(subhaanahu wa ta’lah) said: “The jews and the christians will never be happy with you until you follow their ways.”[al-Baqarah 2:120]

Prophet Muhammad(sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “surely you will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit(i.e, inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a lizard, you too would follow them”,
We(companions) said, “O Allaah’s messanger! Do you mean the Jews and Christians? “He replied”, whom else?.

What Muslims should do is to revive the Sunnah and put an end to bid’ah(innovation); they should not do any action until they know the ruling of Allah concerning it.

Please brothers and sisters, beware of newly invented matters, for EVERY newly invented matters is Bid’ah and EVERY Bid’ah is going astrayed.

Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) said: “Stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my rightly guided Caliphs, beware of Newly invented matter, for EVERY newly invented matter is Bid’ah(Innovation) and EVERY innovation is going astrayed”.[Tirimidhi]

Imaam Sufyaan Ath-Thawree said, “Innovation is more beloved to Iblees than sin, since a person makes repentance from sin but does not repent from innovations (because he thinks bid’ah is from the religion)”. [Itiqad Ahle Sunnah wal Jamah by Laalikai No. 238]

May Almighty Allaah guide everyone of us.
